Abstract:
Both Chinese and Western philosophers have profound reflections on life and death. At first glance, their thoughts appear entirely different. Confucius said, "How can you know death if you do not know life(未知生焉知死)?"—focusing solely on life while leaving death unaddressed. In contrast, Western philosophers like Plato often discuss death, as if saying, "How can you know life if you do not know death(未知死焉知生)?" However, deeper exploration will reveal that this difference is superficial, as both Chinese and Western philosophers share strikingly similar insights on the relation between life and death.
